UP Election Results 2024: Akhilesh-Led Samajwadi-Congress Alliance Thwarts BJP, Secures Independent Majority

Contrary to what the pollsters were predicting and consolidation of opposition votes, Uttar Pradesh has given a huge jolt to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) with the party either winning or leading in 36 seats, while the main challenger Akhilesh Yadav-led Samajwadi Party and the Congress under the banner of the INDIA bloc are on course to win 43 seats.

Rahul Gandhi was leading from Rae Bareli with 3,88,742 votes, while Union minister Smriti Irani of the BJP was trailing in Amethi by about 1,59,240 votes.

Modi was leading by over 1,52,513 votes in Varanasi. SP leader Akhilesh Yadav was leading by 1,67,822 votes in Kannauj.

Earlier, the counting of votes for 80 Lok Sabha seats in the key battleground state of Uttar Pradesh started at 8 am on Tuesday, June 4.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led BJP and its alliance partners under the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) banner were predicted to have a clear advantage in the key battleground state of Uttar Pradesh against the challenger, the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance, or INDI bloc, according to the News18 Mega Exit Poll.

The BJP-led NDA was projected to win between 68 and 71 seats, while the INDIA bloc was estimated to bag just 9–12 seats, the post-poll survey added.

Uttar Pradesh - Key contest between BJP-NDA and SP-Congress
